Betty, my 4-legged energetic coach, has been training with me every day in preparation for my participation in the AIDS Walk Atlanta 5K.
On Saturday, September 28th, I will join thousands of friends, neighbors and families and walk to raise money in the continuing fight against HIV/AIDS and eradicate this terrible disease once and for all. I am only $75 short of my fundraising goal of $1250!
Will you join me in the fight and make a pledge in support of my commitment to AIDS Walk Atlanta?
We have all lost so many wonderful people to this horrific disease. Today, over 40,000 men. women, and children live with HIV/AIDS in metro Atlanta alone.
Every step taken and every donation received will make a difference in the fight to save lives, make medication affordable and fund new research to end HIV/AIDS.
Employer matching gift programs can double the impact of your donation!
Many thanks for your generosity and much love to all of you!
Cleve and Coach Betty
Stan Hughes died in 1984 of lymphoma due to AIDS, He was from my home town, Rome, Georgia. Stan loved to dance. Handsome, kind and generous. He was just 27.
Tom Fowler died in 1988. He was a handsome, witty, wonderful man. Originally from Iowa, he was an attorney who loved Atlanta as much as any native born Georgian. I loved him and saying goodbye was one of the hardest things I have ever done.
Funerals became all too common; fear, anguish, tears and helplessness filled our lives. And when no one in positions of power helped, the gay community and it's family got busy. Organizations were formed, fundraisers were held and quilts were displayed in memory of those we loved. Demonstrations became a necessary part of all our lives to raise awareness and erase the stigma of this horrible disease.
I have made a commitment to walk in the AIDS Atlanta 5K on Saturday, September 28, when thousands will join together in the continuing fight against HIV and AIDS. Will you join me in the fight and make a pledge in support of my commitment?
We all lost so many wonderful people and I would love to hear your stories about those we loved and lost to AIDS. As I walk, I will remember Ernie and Tom and Stan as well as Nick Phelps, Bob Hart, Keith Cleveland, Paul Casey, Bill Craven, Stephen Sims and so many more. Every step I take and every donation received will make a difference in the fight to save lives, make medications affordable, fund new research and ultimately end the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Email me the name of someone you would like me to remember for you during the walk.
I have set a personal goal of $1250 for AIDS Walk Atlanta 2024. Please visit my pledge page and join me by making a donation in support of my commitment.
