Team Bayard

Welcome to our AIDS Walk Atlanta Team Page

The Bayard Rustin Society is a collective of Angelic Troublemakers who unite around shared values to advance justice, equality, and human dignity.

Bayard Rustin, a trailblazing gay civil rights leader and advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Rustin was the key architect for the 1963 March on Washington whose pioneering thought leadership supported many key Civil Rights leaders.

Bayard was an advocate for AIDS education and became involved in the LGBTQ+ movement during the 1980s, when the AIDS crisis began to emerge. He believed that the issue wouldn't be adequately addressed until attitudes about the disease and those affected changed.

He emphasized the need for visibility within the gay community as a key factor in the fight against AIDS-related stigma, and argued that intolerance, regardless of its target, is harmful and must be challenged.

Bayard's involvement with AIDS awareness and the broader LGBTQ+ movement demonstrated his unwavering commitment to social justice and human rights. He believed that true equality for all groups, including LGBTQ+ individuals, was essential for positive social change.

As a team, we are passionate about raising awareness and funds to make a difference in the fight against HIV and AIDS. We’re working to bring attention to this pressing issue, educate and inspire our community to work together, and end the epidemic once and for all.

We would be honored to have you join our team and contribute to our efforts. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by HIV and AIDS.

Thank you for your support and commitment to this important cause.
